總獎金高達250萬美元的第50屆瑞銀香港高爾夫球公開賽，今日在香港哥爾夫球會舉行了決賽輪的角逐。一如過往，瑞銀香港公開賽不到最後一秒也不能落實冠軍誰屬。
賽事需要兩輪的加洞延長賽來決定勝負，這是自從1994年由南非選手霍斯(David Frost)以加洞延長賽來決勝負之後的14年，再次在香港哥爾夫球會的18號洞上演的加洞賽。最後由不負眾望的中華台北球手林文堂以一隻小鳥球為這場賽事劃上完美句號，亦為眾多在場支持的華人觀眾舒一口氣。
中華台北球手的此次勝利有著不同尋常的意義。這是第12次中華台北選手在此折桂，他是第8位，與上次謝錦昇在1988年稱冠時隔21年之久。也是自1998年韓國球手姜旭淳(Kang Wook
Soon)贏得比賽以來，10年後再次由亞洲球手取得該項比賽的勝利。此次比賽是林文堂首次歐巡賽勝利，這富有裏程碑意義的勝利，也將給他的歐巡賽征程迎來一個好的開端。
這次比賽一共出現了一些有趣的數字，分別是第50屆的瑞銀香港高爾夫球公開賽，10年沒有亞洲球手贏出比賽的紀錄被打破，14歲的黑純一成為最年輕晉級歐巡賽的球手，14年沒有出現的加洞延長賽，第300場的亞洲巡迴賽，兩輪突然死亡的延長賽等。第50屆瑞銀香港高爾球公開賽於有著一百多年傳統和歷史的粉領香港哥爾夫球場匯集全球冠軍選手同場競技，賽事絕倫精彩，球迷異常熱情，充分證明了該賽事的世界影響力。

Speech by Mr. Mark Brown
I would like to add a
personal welcome to our players. On behalf of The Venetian we are delighted to
welcome a host of tennis greats at just one single event, let alone receiving
then all in on room! I believe this is a unique occasion, a privilege for us
all and one which we can be proud to remember. We welcome back ‘old friend’ and
current US open Champion Roger Federer, brilliant champion Bjorn Borg, loved and
hate but universally popular, John McEnroe, and another tennis great James
Blake.
The Venetian is proud it can
host another tennis spectacular, tomorrow’s crowd will be a sell out and
everyone I hugely excited at the prospect of seeing our four stars, in head to
head singles and then in a highly entertaining doubles. I think the stars for
turning out after a ling hard year on the road. We do hope your stop in Macao will be one of the
highlights of your year, and indeed of your career, You are always welcome to
our city and to our hotels.
