Andy and adidas presented a traditional paper-cut with victory blessings and support from the people of Hong Kong to Mr. Fok and the Table Tennis duo.

With just a month to go before the start of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, the official sportswear partner of the Games adidas today presented its Made-for-Beijing Exhibition opening ceremony in Times Square.

The Hon. Timothy Fok, GBS, JP, President of Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China, Andy Lau, MH, JP, Mr. Colin Currie, Managing Director of adidas Hong Kong Limited, Mr. Adrian Siu, General Manager of adidas Hong Kong Limited, Table Tennis duo Li Ching and Ko Lai Chak, as well as female fencer Chow Tsz Ki, unveiled the adidas Made For Beijing Exhibition and celebrated the one-month countdown of the Olympic Games.

At today's event, the Hon. Timothy Fok, GBS, JP, also shared his unswerving support for the Hong Kong Delegation. Mr. Fok said, “In less than 30 days, the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games will be started in China and Hong Kong. All the Hong Kong Delegation members are now at the final training stage, and we are confident that we would be driving the best result for Hong Kong. We hope that all the people of Hong Kong will enjoy the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, especially the Equestrian events to be held in Hong Kong.”

Andy Lau, MH, JP, led today's march-in to mark the opening of the ceremony and expressed his excitement as the Games fast approaches. Lau said, “As a Chinese, I am proud to present the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games to the world and show our country and our culture through staging the world's biggest sporting event. I believe all the people of Hong Kong and China are ready to make this long-anticipated event a success.”

Vice-President Xi Jinping applauds earthquake “heroes”

Vice-President Xi Jinping has hailed Hong Kong rescuers and relief workers for their efforts in helping Sichuan earthquake victims. 

On the last day of his Hong Kong visit today Mr Xi toured the Government Flying Service headquarters and met Hong Kong's 120-strong Sichuan aid team, comprising officers from the Fire Services, Health, Food & Environmental Hygiene, Water Supplies and Information Services Departments, plus the Government Flying Service and the Hospital Authority.

Mr Xi was introduced to the team members and briefed on the facilities deployed. Secretary for Security Ambrose Lee and Secretary for Food & Health Dr York Chow showed Mr Xi pictures of the rescue efforts. 

The Vice-President commended the team for their bravery, risking their lives amid the threat of aftershocks, saying their heroism, devotion and professionalism earned the respect of the Chinese people
