Japan
successfully retained their title after overpowering Thailand in
thrilling four-setter 25-22 18-25 25-18 25-23 in the final showdown
of the 20th Asian Senior Women’s Volleyball Championship at Jamsil
Indoor Stadium on Sunday.
According to AVC
Secretary-General Mr Shanrit Wongprasert, except the Tokyo 2020 hosts
Japan and already qualified China, top eight teams in the concluded
Asian Senior Women’s Championship will make the cut for the Asian
Continental Olympic Qualification Tournament in early January. They
are Thailand, Korea, Kazakhstan, Chinese Taipei, Iran, Indonesia,
Australia and India.
However, the top
eight teams have to confirm with AVC their participation in the
Olympic Qualifying Tournament within August 26, 2019. The continent’s
volleyball-governing body will then confirm with FIVB on August 31
all participating teams in the Olympic Qualifying Tournament as well
as candidate countries to host the Asian Continental Olympic
Qualification Tournament.
