The Hong Kong Jockey Club kicks off its 2021-22 season Sept. 5, 2021 at Sha Tin Racecourse in Hong Kong as the Covid-19 pandemic is still in place. Total turnover for the 88 racing days of the last season was HK$136 billion (about US$17.5 billion), up 12.1%, with wagering on local races up 11% to HK$129.3 billion (about US$16.6 billion). Averaged across the 88 days, that means each racing program generated some HK$1.47 billion (about US$200 million) in turnover.

2021/22年度馬季， (9月5日星期日) 在沙田馬場揭開序幕，行政長官林鄭月娥中午主持馬季開鑼儀式，第四場特首盃由大衛希斯訓練的「肥仔叻叻」，以大熱門身分在今日的焦點賽事香港特區行政長官盃 (1200米第一班讓賽) 中順利掄元, 林鄭月娥向馬主代表、練馬師大衛希斯及田泰安頒獎。

馬會行政總裁應家柏表示，今日的馬季開鑼日分別有16,356名及1207名觀眾進入沙田及跑馬地馬場觀賽，全日的投注總額為十四億四千一百萬港元，成績確實超出預期。
