Korea’s Cha You-ram defeated Japan’s
Chihiro Kawahara on Thursday to take the gold medal in women’s 10-ball
at the Incheon Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games.
The 25-year-old Korean billiards star, however, said it was a tense match.
“I was uncertain from the first
set to the last. I even thought that everything was going against me,”
Cha said in a press conference afterward.
“But, I thought to myself that I needed to be stronger in such situations and put that thought into action.”

Hong Kong's swim team will reach for its last haul of medals on the Game's last day of swimming.
“Our
team always performs well at international events. We have collected
the right number of medals at the Games, just different colors,” said
Chin Hung David Chiu, assistant secretary general of Hong Kong Swimming
Association.
“I
think the well-coordinated Hong Kong team brings a synergy effect when
we travel abroad for swim matches,” added Chiu after the preliminaries
on Wednesday.
Chiu
said that Hong Kong swimming had been growing with financial support
and catered swimming training from the Hong Kong Sports Institute.
“Hong
Kong Sports Institute provides swimmers with the nation’s best coaches
and training catered to the athletes. They compete in regional and
national swim meets for experience and go abroad for international
meets,” he said.
Hong
Kong’s ace swimmer Hang Yu Sze will race for a gold in the women’s 100m
individual medley and 100m freestyle on Wednesday night. Sze has bagged
4 medals: one silver in the women’s 50m freestyle and three bronze in
the women's 100m butterfly, women's 4 x 100m freestyle relay and women's
4 x 50m freestyle relay.
“Sze
is one of our best swimmers. She got a little unlucky with her
freestyle, but I have high hopes for the country’s first gold today,”
said Chiu.
“Apart
from the number of medals, I am very proud of our well-disciplined and
high-spirited athletes. They respect other country’s athletes and try to
mingle with others. I believe this is the best part in a sports event
where everyone can become one.”
