"I'm just enjoying my last few moments out on court before the season's over, so I'm trying to really get some good matches before the off-season starts," the top-ranked Puerto Rican said after the match.

Puig struggled through the first half of the season - losing five straight matches during the clay court season - but has begun posting more solid results since the summer began and working with new coach Juan Todero, qualifying for the Rogers Cup and China Open while pushing Venus Williams to three sets at the US Open.

"I've seen a huge difference in my game. I've become more consistent, results-wise, and started to change my outlook on how to look at this sport. I'm a much happier person than I was at the beginning of the year!"
