The
last day's action of the Perfect 2016 World Team Table Tennis
Championships was a repeat of the 2014 World Team Championships Final
in Tokyo, Japan, where China and Japan met in an enthralling women's
team final.
China's
world number one LIU Shiwen was able to defeat Japan's Ai FUKUHARA,
world ranked number 4, comfortably 3-0 to give the Chinese team the
perfect start to their way to gold. LIU's teammate and reigning
Olympics Champion LI Xiaoxia, however struggled against Kasumi
ISHIKAWA, losing the first two games to the Japanese national
champion. The Grand Slam Champion was able to recover from the first
2 games to eventually come back and win 3-2 to give China a 2-0 lead
In
the last match, 2015 World Singles Champion DING Ning faced off
15-year-old prodigy Mima ITO. ITO was able to surprise DING in the
first game, winning 11-8, but the experienced champion quickly
adapted to recover in the next 3 games and seal a 3-0 team victory
for the Chinese team.

Four of the world’s best golfers turned up the volume ahead of this week’s high voltage showdown in Singapore (March 3-6) by staging a one-off performance as a star-studded golfing supergroup.
New Zealand’s Lydia Ko (1), South Korea’s Inbee Park (2) and US star Lexi Thompson (3) were joined by China’s Shanshan Feng (9) for a rocking work-out ahead of the $1.5 million tournament at stunning Sentosa Golf Club.
World No 1 Ko took the mic on lead singer duties, defending champion Park played keyboard, with Thompson on bass guitar and Feng on drums. The fab four performed on a stage specially-built on the spectacular Sentosa golf course with the stunning Singapore skyline in the background. And, fittingly, as the quartet prepare to battle it out for the iconic trophy, they played along to Take That’s 2007 comeback anthem ‘Rule The World’ which the legendary British pop act will no doubt perform at their concert on Saturday evening. The performance kicked off a week of world class sport and entertainment on and off the course with sponsor HSBC and players hailing the event as “golf as you’ve never seen it before”.
