A1GP Brno, Czech Republic (round 2
of 10) -
A1 Team New Zealand took its second victory of the
day in this afternoon's thrilling Feature race at Brno in the
Czech Republic, moving the team into the championship lead by
one point. Jonny Reid crossed the line in first place from
seventh on the grid, ahead of the Netherlands' Jeroen
Bleekemolen and Switzerland's Neel Jani in second and third
position respectively.
Another gripping start greeted the crowds at a chilly but
sunny Brno as pole-sitter Bleekemolen and the cars of South
Africa and Great Britain went three abreast into the first
corner, the Dutchman making it stick to hold the lead ahead of
Adrian Zaugg, Robbie Kerr and China's Congfu Cheng.

Geoff Hill's 'Strewth'(sail no 6188) managed the same feat in IRC Premier Cruising,
wrapping the division up with only one second place marring a clean sweep.
In IRC C, Jamie McWilliam took the first five races on the water and on
corrected time, and chose to sail 'Sai Kung Belle' back to Shelter Cove in
preference to participating in the final race so that he could be back at Middle
Island for prizegiving.

Frank Pong's 'Jelik'(sail no HKG 600) has certainly done her
fair share of 'hanging around' during the course of this three-day Regatta,
taking line honours in every race for IRC Division A in less time than it would
take to eat a decent breakfast. This year, however, Pong has finally
managed to convert a great boat and smooth crew work into an overall win for
the Division, failing only once to take a race on corrected time as well as on
the water.
