香港2009東亞運動會（東亞運）火炬接力今日（八月二十九日）順利完成，把「活力迎東亞」的主題和東亞運的信息廣泛在社區傳遞。
東亞運火炬接力傳遞的起跑儀式於下午三時在九龍公園露天廣場舉行，儀式由行政長官曾蔭權主持。
行政長官曾蔭權在致辭時表示，東亞運火炬接力具有雙重意義，既為慶祝國慶亦為迎接東亞運揭開序幕。他指出，今年十二月本港首次以東道主身份主辦的東亞運將會是歷來最大規模的東亞運動會，他希望全港市民把握這個機會，向來港訪客展示好客之道，盡情投入這項國際盛事，促進香港與東亞地區的體育和文化交流。
今次火炬接力全長約十公里，六十五名火炬手以跑步或利用船隻傳遞東亞運聖火，在九龍公園開始，途經柯士甸道、彌敦道、梳士巴利道、尖沙咀海濱公園、星光大道，橫渡維多利亞港，再經港島的博覽道東、港灣道、博覽道，至灣仔金紫荊廣場，以宣揚東亞運精神。
來自十八區的學校啦啦隊和社區團體在火炬接力路線上沿途為火炬手打氣，一起迎接東亞運。
香港2009東亞運動會將於十二月五日至十三日舉行，接近三千名來自九個東亞國家／地區的體壇精英將在二十二個比賽項目競逐二百六十二面金牌。運動項目和獎牌數目，均為歷屆之冠。
行政長官曾蔭權把火炬傳遞給第一棒火炬手－多哈亞運會男子個人公路單車賽金牌得主黃金寶，東亞運火炬接力傳遞隨即展開。
