China’s tenth Sudirman Cup title came in authoritative fashion over Japan in front of a full-house home crowd in Dongguan today.
The title, China’s
sixth in a row, was won when crowd favourite Lin Dan whipped a smash
past Takuma Ueda to give the home team an unassailable 3-0 lead. China’s
victorious campaign was achieved with the loss of only one match in the
tournament.

Nozomi Okuhara’s
magnificent fightback against Sung Ji Hyun propelled Japan to
their historic first appearance in a Sudirman Cup final.
Okuhara’s typically
combative Women’s Singles victory over Sung proved to be the pivotal
moment for Japan in yesterday's Vivo BWF Sudirman Cup semi-finals,
helping them stay in the contest and setting the stage for the Women’s
Doubles and Mixed Doubles pairs to ensure Japan made their third major
team event final after the Thomas Cup and Uber Cup last year.
The evening finished with an upset, with
the scratch combination of Kenta Kazuno/Ayane Kurihara powering past Ko
Sung Hyun/Kim Ha Na to give Japan an opportunity to win a maiden
Sudirman Cup.
