Timo Glock looks over the city of Singapore

Panasonic Toyota Racing has drawn on the experiences the company enjoyed at Le Mans and in World Rally to prepare for Formula 1's first-ever night race. In particular, an illuminated pit board has been developed using the input of team members who remember well what is required to inform a driver in the dark. A series of LEDs have been added to both sides of the pit board, providing illumination for each row of information. They can be lit in any required combination, while the LEDs illuminating the driver's name flash in order to draw his attention to the correct pit board.

2008 Singapore Grand Prix_ Friday Practice Kazuki Nakajima

The AT&T Williams team joined the chorus of approval for Formula One's first night racing experience following three hours of floodlight practice on the city centre street circuit in Singapore tonight. Both Nico Rosberg and Kazuki Nakajima have found the on-track conditions intensely physical, but it hasn't prevented the pair from making a solid start to the weekend's preparations with both cars in the top ten by the close of play.

Formula One went nocturnal tonight as the Honda Racing F1 Team took to the floodlit streets of Singapore for the opening practice sessions of the Singapore Grand Prix. Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello got their first taste of the new Marina Bay Street Circuit at 1900 local time during the first official night practice in F1 history.

As anticipated, the twisting 5.067km (3.148-mile) track required maximum downforce levels on the team's RA108s. But the circuit, which has been given the unanimous approval of the drivers, threw up plenty of surprises, particularly its bumps and the amount of dust off-line.
